Born in 1925, Robinson studied at Nottingham Art School before entering the Royal College of Art, where she met tutor Edward Bawden, who would become a lifelong friend.  Already successful as an illustrator, having established a life among the group of artists living in Great Bardfield (including Edward Bawden, John Aldridge and Michael Rothenstein), Robinson created increasingly ambitious prints at Cage Cottage, her home and studio.
