If you go to the Fry Gallery this week, you will see this selection of cards from Marianne Straub’s scrapbook:

Centaur and ballerina by painter, designer and illustrator George Mackie

Graphic card from furniture designer and fellow member of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers, Nigel Walters

a Chinese paper cut inside a little pop-up pavilion from an unknown ‘Judith’

a Christmas card in the shape of a dressmaker’s mannekin from an ‘Adele Jay’ in Kensington

St George’s church in Bolton – sender unknown, but presumably one of Marianne’s friends from her time at Helios

A lively Christmas cat from Sheila Robinson – the subject of one of next year’s exhibitions at the Fry

A decoration in the form of a Christmas Tree from ‘The Griersons’ – Ronald and Enid, textile designers, and self-taught weavers

An Edward Bawden woodcut for Church Street Gallery in Saffron Walden

A child’s drawing – could this have been from Nina or James Hoyle?

Father Christmas in a Venetian gondola – sender unknown.
