The Potato Field, Watercolour PC3037 on loan from a private collector
Only four weeks left to enjoy a number of Eric Ravilious’s delicate watercolours, along with works by fellow artists from Great Bardfield, before the Fry closes for the season at the end of October.
This was one of a number of watercolours painted when Eric and his wife Tirzah (Garwood) were living at Ewenbridge Farm near Shalford, just down the valley of the River Pant from Great Bardfield, from 1941. The yearly rent was to be paid half in cash and half with Eric’s watercolours – of which this is an example.
Great Bardfield and Beyond: A Working Landscape is at the Fry Art Gallery until 27th October 2024.
