The Chapel, Hartest, Mixed media PC69 on loan from a private collector, 1947
In the years after her husband Eric Ravilious’s death, Tirzah Garwood turned particularly to making models of local schools, cottages and chapels from cardboard, paper and even leaf-prints. The Chapel is currently on loan to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, where you can see it in the exciting new exhibition ‘Tirzah Garwood: Beyond Ravilious‘ (link below).
Curated by James Russell, the exhibition throws a light on every area of Tirzah’s practice, including almost all of her existing oil paintings, alongside her witty wood engravings, pencil sketches, experimental marbled papers, and collaged paper constructions.
Tirzah Garwood: Beyond Ravilious is at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, College Road, London SE21 7AD, between 19 November 2024 and 26 May 2025.
