Charles Mahoney RA: The Pleasures of Life
Charles (Cyril) Mahoney (l903-68) has been largely forgotten and this exhibition offers a reassessment. Mahoney was a close friend of Bawden and Ravilious who first met while students at the Royal College of Art and all three worked on the 1933 Morley College mural project. An interest in gardening and plants enhanced his mutual friendship with Bawden, which continued after Mahoney moved to Kent. The exhibition explores the pleasure that he derived from life, through his deep love of plants, gardens, and all things botanical, as well as other significant mural commissions and landscape studies in Essex and Kent.
The exhibition is supported by Liss Llewellyn Gallery and Mahoney’s daughter, Elizabeth.
