Still Life with Anemones and Fruit, Oil on Board
Charles Mahoney (1903 – 1968) found his own earthly paradise at Oak Cottage at Wrotham in Kent, and spent the greater part of his life there. The apples and plums depicted in this still life were likely the fruits of his labours. He was a dedicated gardener and plantsman, an enthusiasm which comes jumping out of his work, and which he shared with friends and fellow gardeners John Aldridge and Edward Bawden.
We are thrilled to have a comprehensive and exuberant collection of Charles Mahoney’s work on show in the exhibition currently in the Gibson Room at the Fry Gallery.
Charles Mahoney RA: The Pleasures of Life is at the Fry Art Gallery until 27th October 2024.
