The reason for this choice is to celebrate the pictures that have been given to the Gallery by generous people who want to share their pictures with a wider group of enthusiasts. Not only is this picture valuable in itself, but the donation is an affirmation and confirmation of the quality of the North West Essex Collection at The Fry and the respect that it has, as well as showing affection for the Gallery itself. Each gift contributes to our increasing reputation and allows the growing number of visitors to delight in the new additions; they increase our ability for outreach, research, education and inspiration, as well as simple enjoyment. These kind gifts often have a special resonance because of the connection the donors have with the Gallery.
The title of this work is the name of a village, near Halstead, in North West Essex, not far from where Vaughan kept a weekend cottage and studio.
Presented in memory of Elspeth Fyfe
