From 1950-53, he studied painting and illustration at Goldsmith's and from 1955-58, he was at the Royal College of Art (printmaking and illustration) where he won the silver medal for zoological drawing. From 1966 to the present day, he has been the figurehead behind the Natural History Illustration and Ecological Studies programme at the RCA, where he is now an elected Fellow and visiting Professor.

Norris Wood is one of the few natural history artists whose work transcends the purely informative. As well as having illustrated a number of books on natural history, in particular reptiles and amphibians, he produces limited edition prints inspired by the exotic and unusual forms of the natural world.
