Edwin Smith: Photographer, Painter and Printmaker
Sunday 7th July 2013
Runs to 1st September
Edwin Smith, born 1912, trained as an architect and made his name as an internationally known photographer. He contributed photographs to some forty volumes published in three continents and, after moving from London in 1962, lived in Saffron Walden with his wife and close collaborator, Olive Cook, until his death in 1971.
Smith thought of himself, however, primarily as a painter. He drew and painted every day and his prolific output encompassed not only oils and watercolours but also ink and crayon drawings, linocut prints and woodblock engravings.
